LETTER: What we know so far about rural area data centers
April 8, 2022
The Prince William Digital Gateway was initiated by Resolution 21-445 on July 20, 2021. The resolution stated: “initiation allows for a more detailed analysis of the requested use and impact on Prince William County” and “a friendly amendment was made and approved to enhance the study area to include the entire corridor between Route 29 and Sudley Road”.
The County has been “analyzing” and “studying” whether this private business proposal warrants amending the County’s Comprehensive Plan. We have learned that this proposal:
·Poses the greatest threat to Manassas
National Battlefield Park in three decades.
- · Will have negative impacts on forest resources within the study area and in Conway Robinson State Forest.
- · Prince William Historical Commission voiced its opposition to any non-residential development adjacent to Manassas National Battlefield Park.
- · Prince William Watershed Management Branch said rezoning would allow a dramatic change to the land use with associated far reaching impact to natural resources.
- · Prince William Transportation Department said the proposal will result in 25,406 additional daily trips on Pageland Lane.
- · Prince William Finance Department found the applicant’s claims of economic benefits grossly exaggerated.
- · Fairfax Water urges Prince William County leadership to request the Occoquan Basin Policy Board convene and oversee a Comprehensive Study of the proposed planning initiatives.
- · Fairfax County staff has significant concerns regarding the impacts that will accrue from adoption of this this CPA and encourages Prince William County to reconsider the proposal.
